SMLC Revision 2.0 Hardware

SMLC hardware Revision 2.0 introduced locking 1394 connectors for the ultimate in reliability. SMLC hardware Rev. 2 includes three 1394 connectors on the SMLC-160 to simplify the topology of a ServoWire drive network as the number of axes increases. Note that SMLC revision 2.0 hardware requires SMLC firmware v2.6 or later.  SMLC firmware v2.6 is available to all registered users in the SMLC software section of the Support Library. In addition to the frequently asked questions (FAQs), consult this guide to replacing SMLC hardware.

SMLC2 Hardware

Why do I need SMLC firmware v2.6 or later?

SMLC firmware prior to v2.6 does not  to interface to the new hardware. If you install a SMLC-SYS-128 card from an older SMLC without upgrading the firmware on the card, the SMLC will appear to be "hung" because the old firmware doesn't know how to control the new LEDs or how to access the new 1394 ports. However, the SMLC will actually boot to the point where you can connect to it and upgrade the firmware on it using the SMLC Upgrade utility in ServoWire Pro. Simply wait at least 60 seconds after powering up the SMLC before you attempt to communicate with it.
