Remote Diagnostics Program (RDP)

ORMEC is pleased to announce a new support service for ORMEC products. The Remote Diagnostic Program or RDP provides ORMEC’s customer’s secure remote access of their ORMEC based products by ORMEC System and Support Engineers.

RDP starts with connecting your ORMEC installed products to the eWON® Industrial VPN Router. Linked with eWON’s cloud based Server and Maintained by ORMEC means that an ORMEC support engineer is simply a click of the mouse away.

Options include either connection to your company’s LAN or WiFi network, or for remote locations, a cellular connection.

Without having to await the arrival of or incur the additional cost of Travel and Living Expenses, an ORMEC Service or Systems Engineer will be able to Troubleshoot Errors; Diagnose problems and even update application specific software.

The eWON Industrial VPN Router provides access to the ORMEC Control system only, protecting your company’s internal network as well as well as preventing unauthorized access to the ORMEC System.

An authorized representative of the customer must always be present at the equipment to initialize ORMEC’s access for monitoring any changes that are made to the ORMEC system including but not limited to the SMLC & Orion Controls; XS-Series Indexer Drives and ORMEC HMI application software and/or firmware.

Included with the initial purchase, is a two year subscription for connection. Renewal contracts in 1, 2 and 5-years totals are also available.

Distributed Feedback for XD-Series Indexer

ORMEC is pleased to announce a new feature for the XD-Series Indexer Drive. Distributed Feedback closes the Servo Motor’s Position and Velocity Loop with a separate feedback device directly connected at the load.

A separate feedback device such as a Rotary Encoder or Linear Glass Scale can improve accuracy and precision of load positioning, removing errors caused by mechanical limitations such as backlash from a gear-box or pitch error found on ball-screws. Used in conjunction with a pulley and belt system, it also could be used to detect belt breakage. The separate position can still be latched on the rising edge of each digital input and used in a wide variety of applications such as registration, wind/unwind diameter calculations, etc.

ORMEC has been awarded a subcontract for NASA’s Vehicle Stabilizer Test Fixture

July 31, 2015 – Rochester, New York, USA – ORMEC Systems Corp., a manufacturer of industrial automation control systems and components, has been awarded a new turn-key project to provide the electro-mechanical drive system for NASA’s Vehicle Stabilizer Test Fixture. The fixture is to be located at The Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA.

The Vehicle Stabilizer Test Fixture is designed to simulate the forces that the Vehicle Stabilizing Mechanism would experience while holding a rocket at the launch-pad. NASA’s planned fullscale mock-up includes two individual towers. Tower 1, representing the launch tower, includes a fully functioning Vehicle Stabilizing Mechanism, while tower 2 will be the test fixture itself, representing a rocket at the launch-pad.

ORMEC’s Systems Engineers will be programming complex motion profiles simulating harmonic wind disturbances that rockets are subjected to while at the launch-pad. Simulating the forces exerted on the Vehicle Stabilizing Mechanisms caused by wind disturbances allows NASA Scientists and Engineers to safely and cost effectively plan and resolve possible concerns due to the environment, well in advance of the actual rocket reaching the launch-pad. NASA’s Space Launch System rocket for the planned Journey to Mars is one of the first to be tested.

The motion profiles will be executed on ORMEC’s ServoWire Motion & Logic Controller, (SMLC) interfacing via ServoWire® to ORMEC’s S2D-Series servo drives. Referencing a YZ cartesian plane, 6 servomotors will be used jointly in one path and 3 servomotors will be used jointly in the remaining path. The combined torque of the 9 servomotors will produce a force vector capable of exceeding 100,000 pounds.

ORMEC Announces New Vice President of Sales

ORMEC is pleased to announce and welcome Bill Catalano as Vice President of Sales. Bill will be responsible for the leadership of ORMEC's sales, developing new business opportunities and solutions for the General Motion Industry.

Bill started his career at The Beloit Corporation in Lenox MA, working from Service to Controls Engineer in the Paper Winding machine division. In 1990, Bill went with GE Fanuc in their Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Group, holding multiple positions within GE and then FANUC America after the dissolution of the GE joint venture. Bill's last role at FANUC America was National Sales Manager in the CNC Group, where he lead the Field and Inside Sales team in North America, successfully growing FANUC CNC's market share by expanding into market's beyond Machine Tools, including General Motion.

His strong winning attitude and personality are assets that will complement and enhance ORMEC's ability to meet the needs of our customers as we continue to provide quality, innovative products and services to the marketplace.
 

ORMEC’s XD Indexer Family Expands Analog I/O, Adds Motion Control Features for New Applications

XD Series Indexer servo drive family has expanded I/O capability that includes a second analog input and an analog output. ORMEC 400V XD IndexerThis analog ability along with the new motion control modes for Tension Control, Tachometer Feedback and Generator Mode further expands the motion control applications of the XD Indexer family. Brush-type DC motor control capability is added expanding motor control beyond brushless AC motors.

Power Range of ORMEC’s XD Indexer Family Expanded to Meet Wide Array of Applications

ORMEC 400V XD IndexerNew 400V models have been added to ORMEC’s XD-Series Indexing Servo Drive family. These high-performance, single-axis models further expand the XD Indexer family power range, the widest in the industry.

The new 400V models, with 1.4, 2.4 and 4.8 kW ratings, support 3x peaking and 50% higher power density. This small footprint decreases panel space requirements. The complete XD Indexer family includes a full complement of 200V and 400V models ranging from 0.6 to 24 kW continuous power rating (3 to 60 amps current).

ORMEC awarded two contracts for C-17 Globemaster III tooling assembly upgrades

C-17 in flightORMEC has been awarded two new turn-key upgrade projects for C-17 Globemaster III airframe assembly tooling. The first control system upgrade project is for C-17 Hanging Gardens Tail Dock Tooling and the second is for C-17 Wing Docks Tooling. Both systems are part of the overall aircraft assembly processes in The Boeing Company’s Long Beach, CA facility.

The Rotary Knife, Cut-to-Length, software solution for ORMEC’s XD-Indexer servo drive system is available. The system is comprised of two XD-Indexer servo drives, a pacer encoder and an MMI touch panel. The application includes recipe management functions and an easy-to-use operator interface that supports up to 50 unique recipes.
