Extension of Your Company

Because we work seamlessly with your engineers, we become an extension of your company. Our engineers will come to your facility as additional technical support to help you implement your motion system. This is an advantage because we end up knowing your system and the issues as well as your engineers. We can supplement your staff and extend your company's capabilities. Product Longevity

We know that you have invested in your production equipment and want it to produce for a long time. Our objective is to keep each generation of the ORMEC products in production for 20 years. In the age of computers it is very hard to keep a product in production for 20 years. This is accomplished through re-engineering of the major boards and components and doing last buys on parts that will become obsolete. In the future, or whenever you are ready, if we can no longer supply the older product we will help you find a migration path to a more modern solution.

Reliability

We are committed to produce the highest reliability products and services in the market. We still have controller boards operating reliably that were introduced into the market in the mid 1980s. We want you to put ORMEC products into your machinery and be able to forget they are there; we want them to be so reliable you have no concern. We recognize that in order to produce this kind of product, we need to have in-place the checks and balances to ensure reliability. As an example, we run new software revisions through a rigorous set of regression tests to ensure that no new bugs are introduced, and backward compatibility is maintained wherever possible. This saves you money and reduces your cost of ownership.

Ease of Use

ORMEC has adopted three major technologies for the newest servo system platform, the SMLC / SD-Drive combination, which makes it easy for you to design and implement your project successfully. The programming environment is the standard IEC 61131-3 programming suite of languages, we have all five languages available including Relay Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text, Instruction List and Sequential Function Chart. We started with standard software from the most popular IEC 61131-3 software provider (3S-Smart Software Solutions) and added standard PLCopen motion functionality. In addition, we added ORMEC specific function blocks, providing powerful, flexible functionality beyond that defined in the standard. ORMEC has also decided to utilize the IEEE 1394b FireWire digital network communications protocol. This protocol allows for simple inexpensive communications between your controller and your drives. The third example is our motor Wizard that allows you to easily commission third party motors. You can even use your older motors in a new control system, allowing you to upgrade the controls without changing motor mountings on your current machine (you save more money).

Manufacturing

Our factory floor utilizes a full “Lean Manufacturing” implementation, using techniques such as world class Single Piece Flow production and Kanban inventory control, just to name a few. This allows for smooth flow of scheduled production as well as easily introducing rush orders to meet special customer requirements. Our manufacturing facility has strict preventative maintenance controls in place to ensure that all test equipment is calibrated and in excellent condition at all times. We run every ORMEC product through a full battery of tests and burn-ins to ensure that only the highest quality products are shipped to our customers.

International Coverage

Over the years we have developed capable and knowledgeable partners around the world. Some countries are handled by the home office and others are handled by our Trade Partners. Our trade partners are ready to support the ORMEC product wherever your equipment ends up. They help customers in those locations develop ORMEC controlled machines local to them. Cost Effective Solution

Many of the standard features available on the SMLC (ServoWire Motion and Logic Controller) are extras on most other systems. What this means to you is the price you pay for the ORMEC SMLC controller includes all of these features. When you buy our competition's controller you will be adding these features and paying for each one. You will pay more; there is no way around it. You will not only see savings on our controller; you will save on our cables, our drives and our services. We truly want to be a supplier/partner with you in your business.

Low Cost Software

Yes, you do have to pay for software, but only once and some of our software is free. You get a site license with your software. You can install it on any computer within your company. We do not hit you with additional yearly fees or upgrade costs. When we have a software or firmware upgrade you receive a notice by email and an invitation for you to come to our web site and at no charge download the software or firmware to keep your motion system at the latest revision level. We do not nickel and dime you to death like others do.
